Camaret is
a typical small Provence fortified village. Here you may visit the
old ramparts, the ancient town door know as the "Porte de l'Horloge"
(classed as Historic Monument) as well as the 12th century Chapelle
Saint Andéol.
In Camaret there is also one of the biggest tomato processing plants
in Europe. Founded in 1947, it represents 50% of the tomato production
of France. Who
would have guessed that this quiet village was producer of this sun-filled
fruit/vegetable, known in Provençal as the "poumo d'amour"
- the love apple! Known the world over, it is one of the staples of
the Provence diet, eaten fresh in salads, cooked in the famous Provence
stuffed tomatoes, and accompanying the majority of other southern
French dishes. |

Throughout
our Provence scenery, with the Mont Ventoux and the famous Dentelles
de Montmirail cliffs as landmarks, you won't need a map to go walking.
Wine roads wind through the world famous vineyards and in every village
in the region, wine-makers open their doors to share their passion
for wine-making and offer their wines for tasting.
Some even collect traditional tools tied to the work in the vineyards
and wineries, such as at the museums of wine-making tools in Chateauneuf
du Pape or Rasteau. |
